My Story

I have 39 years of techno-commercial experience in various segments of Oil & Gas business with specialization in commercial and contractual domain. I feel pride in having been in Engineers India Limited (EIL) and having gained invaluable experience of development of systems & processes. I was in the forefront of the digitization initiative of EIL over the last several decades leading to transparency, efficiency, effectiveness and fairness in EIL’s business operations. EIL has been the crucible of learning for thousands across the country, grooming and developing the thought leaders of the nation. It has been in the centre of the knowledge explosion in the country and is one of the foremost knowledge companies in the world today.

I was on the Board of Directors of EIL since 2016 and also served in the capacity of Chairman & Managing Director of EIL in 2021.

Having been a part of the journey of EIL for the last thirty nine years, to be associated with this company and the other Oil Companies under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and most of all under the able guidance and leadership of the Ministry, is a matter of pride and honour.

It is a great feeling to have been a part of India’s growth story for the last four decades. Whereas the imports constituted about 90% of total procurement for the refining sector in eighties, at present the imports stand at a small 10% of total procurement. Let us continue the efforts to make India 100% self reliant.

Incidentally, my academic background is quite diverse starting with B Tech (Mechanical) to MBA(Finance), International Trade, LLB and interspersed with various IT enabler courses etc. on the way. This diversity has given me the strength to handle the commercial issues faced by an entrepreneur and I intend to share my learnings with the industry through writings, webinars, discussions, video recordings, live chats etc. I would like to leave behind a documented legacy for the future generations. This portal is a step in that direction.

Thirty nine years of experience have given me such an insight into the industry that I feel I have hundreds of things to accomplish, before I rest. At this moment, I am reminded of a paragraph from one of the best known poems of all times “Stopping by woods on a snowy evening” by Robert Frost. It was written in 1922.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

The time is ripe for the next generation of procurement reforms and we must ensure that they are implemented in the right earnest.
